Overview

Inviting visitors into the community through branding

A local community only sticks when people can see themselves in it. Branding was the way to make that visible.

I shaped the branding to link to Local UniverseAn AR experience that helps visitors and locals connect on Ganghwa Island. This branding was made for that product.View Local Universe, the app I designed, to welcome visitors to the rural area.

Approach

From sketches to the street

I started from how people already gathered: places, habits, inside jokes. Then I turned those into a look and a voice they could wear, share, and recognize on the street.

Working closely with the local cooperative, Cheongpung, I sketched visuals around a mascot I had designed for the app.

System

Identity that scales down to stickers

The system had to work on a poster and on a 3cm sticker. Same marks, same voice. Just different sizes of care.

Identity

Wordmark, color, and type that feel local without looking temporary.

On the street

Posters, merch, and cards people actually carry and leave behind.

Voice

Short, human language for events, invites, and everyday posts.

Community

When the brand becomes a habit

Once the identity was in people’s hands, the community had something to rally around: a look and a tone that made “we’re here” obvious from across the room.

Branding did not create the community. It made the community legible.
